Matvey Demin

Matvey Demin was born in 1993 in Osinniki (Siberia, Russia). His first flute lessons were with his grandmother Galina Bulgakova at the age of 9. Later on he continued his studies in 2004 at the Novosibirsk specialized school of music with Nadezhda Furenkova.
Since 2009 Matvey is a student in a class of Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hannover and then since 2012 at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Munchen. Throughout his career he has won numerous competitions, such as 1st prize at «All Russia Woodwinds Competition» (2008), 1st Prize at International
«Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition» (2013), special Prize at the ARD Music Competition in Munich (2010) and as youngest participant 2nd Prize at the
«Deutscher Hochschulwettbewerb» (2012). Also he is a prize winner at the BJIMC International Competition (Beijing 2012), International Flute Competition in Krakow, Poland (2014). At the International UNISA Competition for Flute and Clarinet (Pretoria, South Arica, 2014) Matvey has won the 1st prize, as well as 3 special prizes including an invitation to perform in Venezuela with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra. Most recently Matvey has won the 2nd prize (1st prize not awarded) and audience prize at the «International Aeolus Winds Competition» in Dusseldorf (2017). In 2013 Matvey was a Solo-Flutist at Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and Schleswig-Holstein Orchestra Academy before he has won the position at the age of only 20 years as Co-Principal Solo-Flutist at the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. Since season 2014/15 he is playing under the baton of conductors like Bernhard Haitink, David Zinman, Herbert Blomstedt, Franz­Weiser Most, Giovanni Antonini, Paavo Jarvi and many others. Matvey is also very active at the chamber music scene. He has performed at Davos Festival (Switzerland), Emilia Romagna Festival (Italy), Sames Young Artists Festival (Greece) and many others. In the summer of 2018 he will be playing at International Molyvos Festival (Greece).
